Dr. Laura M. Arpan is the Theodore Clevenger Professor of Communication and Director of Doctoral Studies in the School of Communication at Florida State University. Dr. Arpan’s research examines risk perceptions, human motivation and responses to pro-environmental messages, interventions, and related technologies. Her projects focus on the effectiveness of promotional messages and outreach efforts designed to encourage sustainable behaviors such as energy conservation and efficiency. Recent work has examined Americans’ attitudes toward energy conservation and sustainability, factors enhancing the effectiveness of information campaign messages promoting energy-use-reduction and sustainability

Our member, Bing Dong is hosting the OB-19 Symposium and Annex 79 Meeting at the University of Texas at San Antonio from March 13-15 2019
The IEA EBC Annex 79 meeting is a group of approximately 70 researchers and other experts on the topic of occupant-centric building design and operation (more information on Annex 79). The two-day meeting consists of discussing, planning, and pursuing research activities and initiatives for this the five-year Annex, to integrate occupancy and occupant behaviour into the design process and building operation. The detailed agenda will be released approximately one month before the meeting date. Observers are welcome to attend. Contact Profs. Liam O’Brien and Andreas Wagner for details on becoming a regular participant of Annex 79.

Following the tradition of IEA Annex 79, we invite you to submit and present an original research for OB-19 Symposium. The abstract is no more than 300-word (with maximum one Figure) by email to Annex79SanAntonio@gmail.com. All submission will be reviewed, evaluated and selected by the scientific committee. Only oral presentations will occur; not papers. Topics include, but are not limited to:
• Human building interactions
• Personalized comfort and building controls
• Modeling and simulation of occupant behavior based on big data
• Occupant-centric building controls
• Integrate occupant modeling into building design process
• Case studies of occupant-centric modelling, design, and operations
• Other building occupant-related research
Important Dates:
• Abstracts Deadline: January 15th, 2019
• Acceptance Notification: January 21th, 2019 Non-presenters are encouraged to participate in the symposium
