Dr. Laura M. Arpan is the Theodore Clevenger Professor of Communication and Director of Doctoral Studies in the School of Communication at Florida State University. Dr. Arpan’s research examines risk perceptions, human motivation and responses to pro-environmental messages, interventions, and related technologies. Her projects focus on the effectiveness of promotional messages and outreach efforts designed to encourage sustainable behaviors such as energy conservation and efficiency. Hongtao Yi, Ph.D.
Hongtao Yi is associate professor at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, The Ohio State University. His research interests focus on policy process, energy policy and environmental policy. On the energy and environmental policy side of his research, he is interested in evaluating the effectiveness of policy instruments in promoting deployment of renewables, including solar and wind. On the policy process research, he investigates state and local energy and environmental policymaking dynamics relying on theories of policy process and public administration, including policy tools, policy implementation, policy termination, policy diffusion, collaborative governance and policy networks.
He published 26 peer-reviewed articles in top journals in the field of public affairs, energy policy and environmental policy, including Global Environmental Change, Energy, Energy Policy, Environmental Politics, Public Administration Review and Policy Studies Journal. He was awarded the Theodore J Lowi Best Article Award from the Public Policy Section of the American Political Science Association for his contribution to the methodological advancement in policy network studies. He has served as manuscript reviewers for 70 journals and book prospectus reviewers for Oxford University Press, Elsevier, Palgrave MacMillan and Routledge. He currently serves as an international editor for Fudan Public Administration Review, and guest editor for Sustainability. He also served as a member of the program committee for Association of Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) Fall Annual Conferences, and award committees for ASPA, PMRC and APSA.
