Dr. Laura M. Arpan is the Theodore Clevenger Professor of Communication and Director of Doctoral Studies in the School of Communication at Florida State University. Dr. Arpan’s research examines risk perceptions, human motivation and responses to pro-environmental messages, interventions, and related technologies. Her projects focus on the effectiveness of promotional messages and outreach efforts designed to encourage sustainable behaviors such as energy conservation and efficiency. Yong Tao
Dr. Tao is a Betty L. Gordon Endowed Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Cleveland State University. His research interests span from the fundamentals of thermal/fluids sciences to renewable energy, energy efficiency in buildings, and sustainability science. He has produced over 174 peer-reviewed journal papers, peer-reviewed conference papers, edited books, and book chapters. He holds two patents. His research has attracted more than $19.3M funding from the US federal agencies and industries, including multidisciplinary research network projects & leading researchers from numerous universities. He is a fellow of ASME, past chair of ASME Heat Transfer Division, senior vice president and founding board director of American Society of Thermal & Fluids Engineers, editor in chief of Heat Transfer Research, and a licensed Professional Engineer.
Dr. Tao served as the founding dean of CEC from 2016-2018. Prior to joining NSU he served in the department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE) at the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton as chair, endowed PACCAR professor of engineering, distinguished research professor, and director of UNT’s PACCAR Technology Institute. Prior to working at UNT, Dr. Tao was associate dean for academic affairs and undergraduate studies and associate dean for business and entrepreneurship development at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami. He also served as professor of mechanical and materials engineering at FIU and director of the Building, Energy, Environment and Conservation Systems Lab, as well as the Multi-Phase Thermal Engineering Lab at FIU. Dr. Tao received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from University of Michigan.
