UT Research Centers Collaborate to Share Adventures in STEM for Area Middle-Schoolers
A group of potential Engineering Vols from Knoxville area middle-schools enjoyed an array of STEM-related activities in July through a UT Knoxville collaboration between the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS), the Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment (ISSE), and the Center for Ultra-Wide-Area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks (CURENT).

U.S.-Japan Exchange Program for Green Growth Collaboration through Clean Energy Technologies (EXCET) University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Through initiatives such as Global Subnational Zero Carbon Promotion, the Japan-U.S. Clean Energy Partnership, and the Clean Energy and Energy Security Initiative, Japan and the U.S. have collaborated to promote green growth and clean energy. Drs. Mingzhou Jin, Chien-fei Chen, and Kevin Tomsovic are the principal investigators.

Engineering Equity: Chen’s Projects Focus on Inclusion of the Underserved
Chen researches disparities in the accessibility and affordability of technology, energy, and transportation, then develops community-centered ways to improve equity. In 2022, she partnered with teams from Iowa State University and the University of Michigan to improve energy justice and urban navigation for underserved communities.
The two projects, both funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), total $2.75 million.
