Xiaojing Xu, Ph.D.
Xiaojing is a social psychologist by training, and is committed to promoting better decision-making for individuals, organizations, and societies. Her specialties include survey and experiment design, data analytics, statistical modeling and estimation, etc. She is a keen learner of new knowledge and skills and a firm believer in interdisciplinary collaboration. She has been involved in multiple projects across psychology, communication, business, and electrical engineering.
Jacqueline Adams
Jacqueline is a graduate of the University of Tennessee class of 2017. She has a degree in Honors Psychology and a minor in Political Science. She has been working for CURENT since January of 2016. In addition to her passion for researching the social-psychological determinants of energy saving, she is also interested in the intersection between her major and minor. She recently conducted research on ambivalence and voter behavior in the 2016 presidential election for her undergraduate honors thesis. She is currently studying to attend law school next fall.
Taylor Duncan
Taylor is a senior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Religious Studies. She was born and raised in Memphis, TN, and loves being a Vol. Her research interests include resilience and psychopathology, which she hopes to pursue in graduate school. She has worked as a Resident Assistant and a Research Assistant on campus for the past two years and started at CURENT in July 2017. Other interests include travel, reading, and finding good places to eat.
Victoria Gilooly
Victoria is a current junior at The University of Tennessee pursuing degrees in Honors Psychology and in Sociology as a member of the Chancellor's Honors Program. She is from Memphis, Tennessee, and is excited to be at UT. She is president of the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity and plans on attending law school after graduation. Her interests include anything involving good coffee or playing with dogs, preferably both.
Roy Tan
Roy is currently a Freshman in the University of Tennessee at Knoxville studying Electrical Engineering while also being a part of the Chancellor’s Honors Program and the Engineering Honors program. He is from Nashville Tennessee, and his interests include practicing instruments and outdoor activities such as hiking. He also takes part in UTK’s IEEE Robotics team and ASME robotic and drone design team since his goal is a career in robotics.
Brian Lundell
Brian is a freshman at the University of Tennessee Knoxville studying Electrical Engineering. Born and raised in Knoxville, he was indoctrinated into becoming a Vol For Life. His interests include cybersecurity and semiconductor design. He works with CURENT and the IEEE student chapter to further his interests outside of class.
James Brannon
James is a senior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, majoring in Statistics with a minor in Economics. He is an Eagle Scout and has loved the outdoors since he was little, so being able to work research power systems in an analytical role seemed like a natural fit. Upon graduation, he plans on traveling for a year before returning to graduate school to pursue his Masters in Statistics and an MBA. He plans on working in nonprofits as an analyst.
Faiza Islam
Faiza is a senior studying Industrial Engineering and Supply Chain Management with a collateral in Entrepreneurship at The University of Tennessee. She is from Farragut, TN and her interests include traveling and health & fitness. She is involved with the Financial Management Association, UT Investment Group, and Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law fraternity. Upon graduation, Faiza plans to work for a technology startup and pursue an MBA.
Bailey Edwards
Bailey is a senior studying Neuroscience with minors in Communications and Psychology. Born and raised in Knoxville, her passion for the University of Tennessee has always been strong. Having worked as a Research Assistant in a developmental psychology lab, and now at CURENT researching social psychological factors with renewable energy adoption, her research interests lie primarily in the intertwining of genetics and upbringing in order to predict and analyze decision making in people. Her other interests include camping, being on the lake, and drinking coffee.
Sydney Shelby
Sydney (Syd) is a junior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville,and is from Memphis, TN. She is majoring Computer Science with a minor in Hispanic Studies. On campus, Syd is involved with Ambassadors for Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention (AMHSP), Diversity Educators, Systers, and Machine Learning Club. After graduation she plans on pursuing a Master’s degree and getting involved with more research.
Abdulrehman Bhidya
Abdulrehman (Manny) Bhidya is a Junior at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Cyber Security and is following the Artificial Intelligence Path. On campus, Manny is involved with the Machine Learning Club in a leadership position . After graduation he plans on pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science.
Jonathan Shields
Jonathan Shields is a Junior at the University of Tennessee studying to become an Electrical Engineer. He is interested in electric vehicles, power generation systems, and energy storage systems. He is also passionate about spacecraft electronic systems and space stations. He works at CURENT as a researcher exploring electric vehicle usage trends on campus and the future of high power EV charging technology.
Julian Ball
Julian is a junior studying Computer Science at The University of Tennessee and is from Knoxville. He has a wide array of interests including Artificial Intelligence, game development, systems programming, and data analytics. He plans on pursuing a master's degree at The University of Tennessee after graduation and continuing research with CURENT.
Nicholas West
Nicholas West is currently working on a Bachelor's degree in computer science with a minor in mathematics. Born and raised in Knoxville, TN, his interests in the field include information theory, numerical analysis, concurrent computing, and machine learning. Outside of studying, Nicholas is an active member of the West Knox Lions Club, and is currently the youngest member of the club to receive a Melvin Jones Fellowship. Upon graduation, he hopes to pursue a Master's degree and get involved with the more theoretical aspects of computer science.
Rachel Stewart
Rachel Stewart is a junior with a self-designed course of study in Environmental Justice with a concentration in Central Asia. She is also minoring in Public Policy Analytics. She is passionate about fighting environmental injustice and has a specific interest in nuclear contamination in the post-Soviet space. She plans to pursue either a masters in Environmental Health Sciences or attend law school to become an environmental lawyer.
Gregory Bonilla
My name is Gregory Bonilla and I am currently a Senior in Geology/Environmental Sciences in the Earth and Planetary Sciences department at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I am passionate about environmental restoration and management, sustainability, and am currently working on a project classifying modern brittle stars. I hope to pursue my masters degree at UT after I graduate. I was brought to CURENT because of a professors recommendation and the array of work they do.
Ahmed Aklouk
Julian is a junior studying Computer Science at The University of Tennessee and is from Knoxville. He has a wide array of interests including Artificial Intelligence, game development, systems programming, and data analytics. He plans on pursuing a master's degree at The University of Tennessee after graduation and continuing research with CURENT.
Hannah Nelson
Hannah is a senior studying Linguistics with a minor in Sociology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her major areas of interest include sociolinguistics, social (in)justice issues, research, writing, and editing. She plans to eventually go on to graduate school to receive her master's in Sociology in order to do further research and teach.
Nicholas Jones
Nick Jones is a graduate from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville as of May 2021, majoring in psychology with a minor in sociology. During high school, Nick pursued robotics, computer engineering, 3D modeling, and video game programming, which made CURENT a good match. He has been working with CURENT research center since Oct. 2019 and has since successfully published as a co-author in the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews journal. Since his graduation, Nick is pursuing careers in the data analysis/science/quality assurance fields. Nick spends his free time trying new recipes, or playing video games with his friends.
Zhenning Yang
Zhenning is a senior majoring in Computer Science, and minoring in Mathematics and Cyber Security at The University of Tennessee. His main interests are Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, and Computer Hardware. He plans to pursue a master's degree after graduation and get involved in AI research.
